Couples in Singapore who are already in relationships — from dating to engaged, married, and parents — and who still need to "date" to maintain their relationship. Estimated at >1.2 million couples nationwide.
Use Case
On a regular basis (e.g. weekly, monthly, etc.), these couples are trying to decide how to spend quality time together and want reliable, validated date ideas that feel special but still fit their preferences and constraints. They usually encounter the problem in those “what should we do?” or "where should we go?" moments, after they have decided that they want to spend time together.
Pain Point
We identified 4 main pain points through our initial user interview:
Lack of fresh ideas – couples feel stuck repeating the same things and struggle to find new, reliable “tried-and-tested” options for dates.
Overwhelming information – too many options across platforms (Google, TikTok, blogs, review sites) that are not tailored to suit the couples' constraints, creating high cognitive load to choose anything.
Logistical and cost constraints – worries about budget, distance, crowds, and coordination (transport, time, childcare), plus pressure from expensive “aesthetic” dates, make planning feel impractical or unsustainable.
Misalignment and indecision between partners – “Anything lor / you choose lah” dynamics, different preferences, and one person carrying the planning load cause friction, stalemates, and reduce the frequency/quality of dates.
Consequence
If this problem persists, many couples will continue to default to routines (e.g. staying at home doing nothing in particular, repeating “tried-and-tested” spots, or running purely functional errands) instead of intentional dates to strenthen the relationship, despite a real desire to connect. Over time, this erodes perceived relationship quality and undermines the long‑term relationship resilience.
User Research and Market Analysis
User Research
We used a mix of qualitative interviews and secondary research / survey data to validate the need for 2toGo.
Through 27 1-on-1 qualitative interviews, we heard repeatedly that couples wanted to spend meaningful time together but found planning "proper dates" tiring, logistically difficult, and often defaulted to low-effort routines.
Secondary research & survey data
A national survey () of 1,000 singles and people in relationships highlighted modern dating frustrations and reinforced that relationship maintenance is as challenging as career commitments.
Many Singaporean couples treat “mundane” activities as dates () — 72% voted grocery shopping as a favourite date activity, 61% prefer staying in to cook, and other top activities include dog-walking, furniture shopping, and organising a space at home — suggesting strong appetite for “chore-as-date” experiences if they are made more intentional.
Longitudinal research from NUS () further shows that weekday stress and fatigue significantly reduce intimacy, with no evidence of compensating on weekends, underscoring the need for low-effort, weeknight-friendly ways to connect.
De-risking
Viability risk: There are insufficient high-quality date ideas, as 2toGo relies on the users to contribute their ideas and validate others' date ideas.
Mitigation: Hackathon team will seed the initial date idea bank, we plan to user test the prototype and find out what incentivises users to share, as well as what details interest them.
Value risk: Instead of availing date ideas by number of upvotes, users prefer more tailored ideas for them to swipe (select) from
Mitigation: Pivot to keep upvotes as a good-to-have information, re-design the algorithm to push date ideas based on past dates and preferences for swiping
Stakeholder Buy-in
The team plans to reach out to MSF, specifically Families for Life (FFL) and Registry of Marriages (ROM).
Solutioning
Problem-Solution Fit
2toGo directly addresses the pain points and JTBDs we identified for couples:
Escape the routine: Curated date ideas and swipeable suggestions provide fresh, exciting options beyond typical weekend plans.
Resolve “anything” deadlock: The app surfaces ideas that both partners are likely to enjoy, reducing decision fatigue and back-and-forth.
Discover before needed: Users can passively explore and save ideas, building a bank of inspiration for future dates.
Plan around real constraints: Preference-based filtering (vibe, energy, budget, location) ensures ideas are feasible without manual research.
Match the format to the moment: Structured date ideas with places, food, and discussion topics help couples quickly find coherent plans.
Community contribution: Couples can add their own creative ideas back to the platform, inspiring others and increasing engagement.
