Goal

Being able to create a WILL with just a few simple steps through a government-trusted site.

Problem Statement

  • Consolidating assets is a pain, even for a simple will.
  • Insights / AHA Moments:
    • Witness and testator need to be physically present to wet ink sign by law.
    • Taboo and privacy concerns from younger age groups.
  • Current Analysis:
    • 48% of Singaporeans have not made their will.
    • Drafting a will is perceived to be complicated, requiring lawyers who charge high fees.
    • Leads to unintended asset distribution, family disputes, and prolonged probate processes.

Original Problem Statement:
Citizens who have been in the workforce for more than 5 years need to consolidate all assets and legacy planning when drafting a will. However, complexity arises due to:

  • Gathering all possible assets.
  • Reaching out to witnesses and lawyers.
  • Associated costs of data collection and personnel.
  • Ensuring the will is executable.
  • Delays in asset distribution, leading to family disputes.

Solution: Easy WILL

Proposed online system linked to Singpass / LifeSG

  • Increases awareness among citizens and PRs.
  • Heavily subsidized.
  • Simple, intuitive flow for retrieving assets from government-linked sources:
    • MyInfo
    • HDB
    • SLA
    • SGfinDex
  • Asset allocation and nomination.
  • Option to engage professional witnesses via government/commercial entities to:
    • Address privacy concerns.
    • Reduce time needed to formalize simple wills.
  • BookingSG integration for scheduling witness and testator meetings for signing.

  • 30% of citizens aged 21-55 complete drafting their wills via the platform.
