Problem Statement & Problem Formulation Process
The Challenge
Many working adults in Singapore struggle to maintain a regular exercise routine due to demanding schedules, lack of motivation, and limited access to structured fitness programmes. While the ActiveHealth exercise programme provides self-administered workout plans, it lacks a real-time feedback mechanism. This leads to:
- Low engagement and adherence to the prescribed programmes.
- Limited visibility for coaches and doctors to track participants’ progress and provide timely support.
- No structured feedback loop to understand why users may drop out or face challenges.
Problem Formulation Process
To refine the problem, our team:
- Engaged stakeholders – including ActiveHealth coaches, doctors, and past programme participants – to identify key pain points.
- Reviewed existing data – analysing user feedback, engagement rates, and reasons for dropout.
- Mapped the user journey – from doctor referrals to programme completion, identifying gaps in tracking and motivation.
These insights led us to focus on enhancing participant engagement, progress tracking, and personalised feedback loops.
Our Solution: ActiveHealth Buddy
ActiveHealth Buddy is a digital platform designed to improve the self-administered exercise programme by introducing structured progress tracking and real-time feedback loops.
Key Features
- Seamless User Onboarding – Personal profiling, body composition assessment, and a safety questionnaire to determine programme suitability.
- Self-Reported Progress Tracking – Users log session completion, workout duration, and qualitative feedback.
- Automated Nudges & Reminders – Gentle prompts to encourage consistency and allow users to indicate reasons for missed workouts.
- Coach & Doctor Dashboard – Provides visibility into user progress, enabling timely interventions.
This solution is simple, accessible, and effective, helping participants stay accountable while providing valuable insights for healthcare professionals.
Impact & Outcomes Analysis
To measure the impact of ActiveHealth Buddy, we will track:
- User Engagement: Percentage of participants logging workouts weekly.
- Adherence Rate: Percentage of users completing at least 75% of their prescribed sessions.
- Dropout Insights: Reasons for non-completion (collected via feedback forms).
- Stakeholder Utilisation: Frequency of coaches and doctors accessing the dashboard for interventions.
- Self-Reported Health & Fitness Improvements: Percentage of users reporting improved fitness levels or increased motivation post-programme.
Through early testing, we aim to refine the user experience and ensure the platform effectively supports long-term exercise habits.
Future Steps
- Prototype Testing: Conduct user testing with selected participants to gather real-world feedback.
- Enhancing Data Collection: Explore integration with gym machine data for more precise tracking.
- Consultation Booking: Allow users to schedule check-ins with coaches for personalised guidance.
- Gamification Features: Consider leaderboards, achievement badges, or social challenges to boost motivation.
- Long-Term Adoption Strategy: Work with ActiveHealth to scale the solution across different fitness programmes and user segments.
- Enhanced Security: To integrate with the Government Commercial Cloud (GCC), ensuring that the data resides within the government network for enhanced security and compliance.
By addressing the critical gap in exercise adherence and real-time feedback, ActiveHealth Buddy has the potential to drive meaningful health improvements for working adults in Singapore.
